Ohio operator practice tests
Ohio EPA's operator exams are delivered by Water Professionals International — Ohio EPA's approved exam provider — through PSI, after the state retired its own paper exams in 2023. TradeQBank's Class I banks rehearse the same WPI blueprints and format: 100 questions, 3 hours. Start with a free 25-question sample; the full 326-question bank is $49 one-time.

Ohio also certifies Wastewater Collection operators (Class 1 entry) on the same WPI-delivered system. TradeQBank does not sell a collection-systems bank, so there is no collection practice set here — the three banks above cover Ohio's water supply, distribution, and wastewater treatment exams.

State facts checked October 26, 2026 against Ohio EPA's operator certification exam fact sheet and WPI's Ohio EPA certification page. Source: Ohio EPA — examination format fact sheet. If your state isn't listed, the banks still rehearse the national WPI Class I blueprints — but check your board's exam provider before relying on that.
FAQ
Common questions
Does Ohio use the WPI standardized operator exams?
Ohio EPA's exams are delivered by WPI, which Ohio EPA lists as its approved exam provider, through PSI computerized testing. Ohio retired its own paper-and-pencil exams after May 2023. The exams carry Ohio EPA class branding, and the underlying blueprints, formula sheets, and format are WPI's.
What class does a new Ohio operator start at?
Class 1, for water supply, water distribution, and wastewater treatment. Class A is a separate certification for very small systems.
How long is the Ohio Class 1 exam?
Ohio EPA's exam materials describe the computerized exams as 100 questions with a 3-hour limit — the format TradeQBank's timed mock exam rehearses.
Can I test before I have the required experience?
Yes. Ohio allows applicants short on the 12 months of operating experience to take the Class 1 exam and be designated an Operator-in-Training; full certification follows once the experience requirement is met. Ohio EPA makes all certification decisions.
